The Volkswagen Polo Playa was a rebadged Seat Ibiza produced by Volkswagen South Africa. It was discontinued in 2002 and replaced by the Mk4 Polo. The reason why it was not sold in Europe is that the Volkswagen Polo Mk3 took the place for VW's subcompact car. The sedan version, the Polo Classic, was sold in Europe, though. The 1.8i was the top-of-the-line version of both the Polo Playa and the Polo Classic in South Africa, boasting 110 hp.
